Senior Consultant – Competition Economics
Role Overview
As a Senior Consultant in Oxera’s Competition Economics centre of excellence, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality economic analysis, managing projects, and engaging with clients. You will work on complex competition cases, supporting clients in navigating antitrust investigations, mergers, litigation, and regulatory matters.
This role is ideal for an experienced economist with a strong background in competition economics, excellent analytical and communication skills, and a passion for applying economic insights to real-world legal and policy challenges.
Key Responsibilities
Project Delivery & Technical Expertise
- Lead and contribute to economic analysis on competition cases, including mergers, abuse of dominance, cartel investigations, and damages assessments.
- Conduct and oversee rigorous quantitative and qualitative analysis, applying economic theory to real-world business and regulatory issues.
- Structure and interpret economic models, using statistical and econometric techniques to assess market dynamics and competitive effects.
- Synthesize complex findings into clear and compelling reports, presentations, and expert submissions.
Project & Client Management
- Manage multiple projects, ensuring delivery of high-quality outputs within agreed timelines and budgets.
- Coordinate project teams, providing leadership, mentoring, and guidance to junior colleagues.
- Act as the primary point of contact for clients, ensuring effective communication and strong professional relationships.
- Identify and address client needs, providing strategic insights and high-value solutions.
Business Development & Thought Leadership
- Contribute to the growth of Oxera’s competition practice by identifying new opportunities, supporting proposal development, and building client relationships.
- Engage in thought leadership by writing articles, participating in industry discussions, and speaking at conferences.
- Stay updated on competition law and economic developments, sharing insights with internal teams and external stakeholders.
Key Requirements
Academic Excellence:
- A Master’s degree or higher in Economics, Econometrics, or a related field. A PhD is highly desirable.
Relevant Experience:
- Extensive professional experience in competition economics, gained in a consultancy, regulator, or corporate environment.
- Strong expertise in economic analysis for competition cases, including familiarity with antitrust frameworks, merger control, and litigation support.
Technical & Analytical Skills:
- Proficiency in economic modeling, quantitative techniques, and empirical methods.
- Experience with statistical software (e.g., Stata, R, Python) is an advantage.
Communication & Client Engagement:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex economic concepts into clear insights for clients.
- A strong track record of presenting findings to clients, lawyers, and policymakers.
Leadership & Teamwork:
- Ability to manage and mentor junior colleagues, fostering a collaborative team environment.
- Strong personal organization skills to balance project work, business development, and internal initiatives.
